CutSprout facts

Plain facts about CutSprout, for people and AI helpers. We check them against the app itself.

What is it?
A web app that turns a PNG, JPG or WebP image into an SVG or DXF cut file.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It runs in your web browser.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The tracing runs in your browser, so your image is not sent to us to convert it.
What files do I get?
SVG, sized in millimetres. DXF (R12), with closed shapes in millimetres and one layer for each colour. Holes stay as their own inner shapes.
Which modes are there?
Single colour, for one cut layer like a sticker. Colour layers, for 2 to 8 layers, one for each colour.
Which settings can I change?
Detail, Smoothing, Threshold, Background removal, Ignore specks, Width (mm), Invert and Mirror. Mirror flips the design for iron-on vinyl (HTV).
Which machines?
The files work in Cricut Design Space, Silhouette Studio, the Glowforge app, xTool Creative Space, LightBurn, Brother CanvasWorkspace and CNC apps like Easel, Carbide Create and VCarve. Silhouette Studio Basic opens DXF but not SVG. Glowforge does not open DXF.
What does the free plan include?
3 downloads a day, with traces up to 800px. You sign in with your email first. There is no password: we email you a link and a 6-digit code. The 3 a day are counted per email and per internet connection, whichever runs out first. When you sign in, you join CutSprout email updates. You can unsubscribe any time.
What about Pro?
Pro is coming soon. You can't buy it yet. The plan is unlimited downloads, traces up to 2400px and converting many images at once. The planned price is $7.99 a month, or $19 once for lifetime Pro. A Pro licence will work on up to 3 devices.
Who makes it?
CutSprout is not linked to any machine or software brand named here. Their trademarks belong to their owners.
